I AM FEATURED IN," ITS A MAD CAP LIFE" BLOG

Awakening the Inner Artist

BY
A'esha Miller

Welcome to another feature on "It's A Madcap Life."  We hope you will join us in the Madcap Speakeasy, where we explore art, culture and design.  Within the Etsy community, there are wonderful artists who express the ethos of the Madcap spirit.  I'm lucky to have met many of these artists, who joined the Madcap Team.

What is the Madcap spirit?  The Madcap spirit is the desire, will and intention to have a great artistic adventure.  To play, create and make life worth living, peaceably, brilliantly with madcap candor and fun.  All the way around the globe!  "It's a Madcap Life" is designed to give people a good laugh, help them to explore and stretch their boundaries and take a new great leap forward into the Etsy ethos of the creative spirit.  Live footloose and fancy free!  We hope you will come join us on our next Madcap adventure in the stars and with the stars who shine so brightly on Etsy.

Today, we begin our exploration into the inner artist. What makes an artist tick? Featuring Etsy artisans who are living to tell you why they CREATE.  And how much they Love to be FREE!

Travel is what makes me tick, having lived on three different continents in the past 3 years. I now reside in Mozambique where I surround myself by things which inspire me, the sea, blue skies, tropical storms, African culture and much more. I use rich colour in my paintings which give energy to my work.

I have been trying to answer that question for myself for at least 2 decades now. My partner Don (the woodwork) says he enjoys it. For me it's a constant compulsion to try something new. A constant influx of ideas in my head. From color combinations, to patterns, to being satisfied with a new design I create. I gave up painting because I was never satisfied with the end result...constantly wanting to add a little more. With the fiber art, there is a "somewhat" limit and I can reach satisfaction with a finished piece.

Really, what makes any artist tick? Please let me know if you find
                            the answer.

by Firefly Myst

For me this piece represents a true "awakening"! The dragonfly with her wings open to the wind and flying to unknown places.

Until just a few years ago I never knew that creating could be so rewarding. My husband's passion for creating and his mentoring, helped me to see that there was an inner passion and talent for creating within me that I didn't know even existed.

The colors and textures of the materials; from the organic look and feel of black lava and earthy clay to the pop of color from the purple crazy lace agate. It all comes together, and I know that this is just the beginning!!

Color makes me tick; and treasure! I'm a modern day pirate! I see something pretty or interesting and I want to take it home with me! But how do you take home a drop of dew? How do you keep a rose from fading? How do you take home the color of the sea? You take a picture of it! Then a part of it is yours forever.

I love creating wearable art. My goal is to make women feel beautiful and happy when they put on one of my jewellery pieces. I want them to experience that same dream-like state of being that I envision when creating my jewellery. Romantic designs are my specialty and passion.
